International Star Class Yacht Racing Association - District 6

I would definitely support a Bellingham regatta next year. In the lead up to the North Americans we all could gain from mixing it up in a new venue.

I think we all need to strive to travel more often. A District 6 series would be great place to start. Perhaps a schedule like David Branch has proposed would encourage more to get on the road. Can I suggest continuing this conversation over the fall

I have posted this email thread on the District 6 website for all to to contribute.

I can't make it this year. Next year?

This isn't a new idea, but can we come up with a schedule between the various fleets and commit to it? We have a district website that will facilitate this.

The boats in Gig Harbor and Olympia could broaden their horizons with road worthy trailers and a few regattas before and after they launch. We would have to score the classic stars separately from the newer ones but so? They could all start together which can only make everyone a little sharper.

A $4000-$6000 investment can get you Star enthusiasts in Olympia/Gig Harbor that 2nd boat that can travel and compete. If you don't want to do this alone, find a partner.

Possible travel regattas

Puget Sound Spring Regatta - 1st weekend in April

Black Star - Olympia - late April

Seattle NOOD - mid May

Kitsilano and Waves regattas in Vancouver- late June/mid July. This is a great venue and except for the occasional car getting towed (know your regulations) it's a lot of fun.

Late Days Regatta - late June- Seattle

Districts - Late July/Early August?

Labour Day Regatta - Vancouver

North Americans - Seattle - early Sept? A long tow for the Gig Harbor and Olympia fleets or haul and go.

Bellingham - 3rd week in Sept?

Puget Sound Championship - 1st weekend in October.

All,

Please let me know if you'd like to travel to Bellingham to race in their Dale Jepsen One-Design Regatta on Sept. 20th and 21st, and I'll let Mike Poulos know.

Thanks,

Subject: Stars in Bellingham!?

Hi,
My name is Mike Poulos. I coordinate the Dale Jepsen One Design Regatta. We have the means and desire to have a Star Fleet. Currently, we have 2 cranes with the capability to lift Etchells and SJ24s from their keel bolts. I'm certain it would be no problem for the Stars.

The event will take place on the 20th and 21st of September. It will also be part of the Bart's Bash event in honor of Andrew Bart Simpson. I am wondering what we need to do to entice you to come up and race with us... Registration is relatively cheap. It covers dinner and a keg of beer. It's always a fun time, with an epic party on Saturday Night.

Please let me know what I can do to help get a Star Fleet up to Bellingham

Thanks

Mike
