International Star Class Yacht Racing Association - District 6

15 Stars from Washington and BC raced over 2 days in English Bay for the District 6 Star Championship, hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.. Saturday started with a weather transition that meant several races were abandoned.  RO John Culter got us under way in light breezes that settled into a classic westerly, as the sun broke through.  After three races, day one was led by Allan Cullen and Dave Martin (CAN 8271). A few beverages on the lawn were followed by a big steak dinner for the competitors and guests.

Sunday saw a warm westerly develop early and we got off 4 more races in perfect conditions.  When the dust settled Rob Cullen and Jamie Hynes ( CAN 8247) had earned the 'Blue Star' for their mainsail. Danny Cayard and Paul Cayard (USA 8362) came in second, earning Danny the "Green Star' ( top new helm). He seems to have been well tutored for his 18 month Star experience. Third was Derek DeCouteau and Jamie Stewart (USA 8083).

Prize giving was held on the lawn and there were big sunburned smiles all around!.  In addition to the volunteers, we would like to thank all the race committee members including RO John Culter, RVYC Fleet Captain Robb Bassett, Sailing Director Hunter Lowden and Judge Lorne Chapman.
