Preliminary District Championships Information

Districts will be held out of Westbay Marina here in Olympia, on August 8th and 9th. Boats can be out in at 9-10 am on the 8th and we ask that they remain in till Sunday after the races. Boats can be launched on Friday also, I need to know how many to expect to be launched and when so I can make arrangements with the lift operator. There will be a catered dinner Sat night and a short awards ceremony Sun. The format will be the same as our Black Star Regatta at the end of April for which notices have been sent out and is posted on the south sound sailing web site. Anyone who wants to rv it or camp can do so at my place or stay at the marina or we can arrange hotel or even housing in private homes if we know how many we need to cover for. In August, the winds tend to be light, lots of sunshine, and all kinds of activities in and around town for family members to see and do while we are out racing. There are a number of close by places to get breakfast since the restaurant at the marina doesn’t serve breakfast till 10am and racing on Sunday will start around then. We use a single start, score an overall position as well as a position in each of three division we have set up in our fleet. We have a woodie division, a glass boat division for boats under 7100 and a grand pre division for boats above 7100 numbers. Our fleet numbers 32 boats in the water with 5 woodies, and the rest glass under 7100. We have one boat in the grand pre div that usually races with the fleet. We are looking at a $65 entry fee which will cover a tee shirt and dinner for skipper and crew. Anyone else can join us for dinner at $10/ person and additional tees can be had for extra price. We will discuss tides and currents at the skippers mtg before the practice race on Friday evening and Sat morning. We will run as many races Sat as we can fit in, same on Sunday. On Sunday, no races will be started after 2pm. Please feel free to ask more questions if I haven't covered something.
