Pre Season Sailing

Gentlemen,
As the beginning of our regatta season is closing in quickly, I would like to promote an idea of a pre-regatta warm-up day.  This day will include some practice starts, short courses and general tuning up.  This event will take place on the date of Sunday, April 1st which is two weeks before the RVYC April Series.  On water time will be 1100hrs.  If we are all talking to each other after (skippers and crews) we could meet at KYC for a BBQ get together ans story…

Star Class Addresses Olympic Critics

STAR CLASS ADDRESSES OLYMPIC CRITICS

In a last ditch effort to be included in the 2016 Olympics, the Star Class convened an Emergency Committee to adopt new rules with the hope of influencing the ISAF mid-year meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia in May.

These rule changes are designed to increase the athleticism of its sailors, lower the cost of equipment, and remove barriers to new…

English Bay Fleet - October Series Report

The 2010 sailing season for the English Bay Fleet ended in glorious fashion last weekend. Two days of beautiful, warm (for the time of year) sunshine with steady Westerly winds of 5 to 12 knots.

Congratulations to Bruce Long and his crew Paul who sailed strong all weekend to win our final regatta.

Phil Lockwood placed second followed very closely by Larry Warshawski in third.

Special mention to Bill Burgess who turns 80 next week. He sailed strong all weekend to… Continue

Star 7617 For Sale

District 6 fleet Captains and Secretaries.

My name is John Loendorf, I have not sailed for the last two seasons. At this point

while it is hard to do so, I am putting my boat up for sale. I am

hoping that someone local to District 6 will be interested. The boat

is under cover in a suburb of Seattle, and near freeway access for

quick viewing. I would ask that you pass this detailed list on to your

fleet members or interested parties that you may know… Continue

English Bay Fleet Dues Please

Hi everyone in the English Bay Fleet. It's that time of year again and dues for 2010 should be sent to me ASAP so I can get them in to the International Office. Skips $95.00 and crew $45.00.

As mentioned in the AGM minutes it was suggested that crew who do not join the International are asked to pay $10.00 to the fleet which supports the years activities and maintain a zero budget account.

Please send cheques made out to the English Bay Star Fleet to:

T-Shirt Order

Hello all;

Use this blog to comment about my T-Shirt message.

The price to have these printed is going to be around $11.00 so I think we should charge $15.00 to make sure we are over taxes etc.

I can order other sizes if needed - I'll just add them to the base order of 24.

Amazing Med Cup Pictures

If you'd like to see some amazing shots of TP52s and TP42s in high wind racing go to this link - http://2009.medcup.org/gallery/ Choose "image gallery" and then look at the series titled Cartagena DAY 3.

The amount of water that is coming over the boats is fantastic. One boat claims they reached 26.5 knots of boat speed. And from what I ready there was very little damage which is really incredible for these high tech… Continue

Labour Day Regatta

Wow - what a weekend! Some wild and whacky weather made for a very interesting regatta. First of all congratulations to our winners - Foss Miller and Stu Frost, from the Puget Sound Fleet, who didn't seem to be bothered by much of anything out there and took away first place honours for the second year in a row. Larry Warshawski and Thomas Franz edged out Dennis Burgess and Gordon Clay for second place.

Also a big thank you to the race committee who did a very nice job of trying to… Continue

English Bay Fleet - June Series Report

A warm, shifty weather system over the weekend provided some challenging conditions for most boats. Steve Fleckenstein (8028) didn't seem to find many serious challenges though, and sailed a very consistent regatta, winning 6 of 8 races and finishing 2nd in the other 2. Don Campbell (7607) did a good job of saving a couple of races to claim second on the weekend and Bruce Long, a new member this season, has quickly learned how to get a Star up to speed, claiming third… Continue

T-Shirts

Hello everyone. Andreas was kind enough to give us the artwork from the North Americans and a couple of previous pieces from T-Shirts of old. I've managed to rework the NA logo for this year. The front design is immediately below the post and then the back design follows at the bottom of the page. Please let me know anyone would be interested in ordering some if we got them made up. I can make changes to the logo if anyone has suggestions. One thought is about the year - it doesn't have to be… Continue

Medcup update

Our very own Ross MacDonald is the tactician on Bribon, a T52 competing in the Medcup off the coast of Spain. They started the season off in fine fashion by winning the first race at Alicante. I've added a link to the site so you can keep up with them as the season progresses. Here's a link to the latest report - Medcup Report

Congratulations Ross and keep up the good work.

Cheers for now and happy sailing.

English Bay Fleet Spring Series Report

A relatively light and shifty weekend for the English Bay Fleet season opener on Saturday and Sunday. With the exception of races 3 and 4 on day one we experienced light winds from the East, with several delays waiting for wind and one abandonded race. The weather was mild with a sunny day on Saturday and clouds on Sunday. We still managed to get 6 races in and over all an enjoyable day on the water.

Phil Lockwood (7988) won his first series event with a steady performance on both… Continue
