International Star Class Yacht Racing Association - District 6

Wow - what a weekend! Some wild and whacky weather made for a very interesting regatta. First of all congratulations to our winners - Foss Miller and Stu Frost, from the Puget Sound Fleet, who didn't seem to be bothered by much of anything out there and took away first place honours for the second year in a row. Larry Warshawski and Thomas Franz edged out Dennis Burgess and Gordon Clay for second place.

Also a big thank you to the race committee who did a very nice job of trying to keep us racing while the winds were moving back and forth across the Bay.

Saturday started late while we waited for wind to fill in. But when it filled in it came with a vengeance. Some very nasty squalls moved through while the course was being set up but eased off somewhat before we got under way. The first 2 races were sailed under strong winds featuring big changes in direction and speed. The last 3 races were sailed under more comfortable wind speeds but still shifting around in direction and intensity. The race committee was kept busy resetting the course a couple of times.

Sunday started with a very close battle for position on the scoreboard. There were 3 points separating the second place boat from the seventh place boat. The winds continued to be solid and shifty - a good racing day with Easterly winds, very low seas and little tide. But then suddenly Mother Nature ended our day early when winds of over 25 knots were recorded on the race committee boat and it was decided in the interest of safety to call it a day after 3 races.

The gladiator award for the weekend goes out to Steve Wells who now owns 7797 (Larry Warshawski) and his crew Blair Skene - from Dryden, Ontario. Before racing on Sunday they broke a spreader bracket and were able to get their main down quickly before any damage was done to the mast. After a tow to Kits they were able to repair it and make it back out on the water for the last race. Unfortunately the wind kept us from getting that one started. It was really good to see that level of enthusiasm. Welcome to our fleet Steve I'm sure you're going to enjoy sailing with us.

I look forward to a very competitive Fleet Championship in two weeks. Please take the time to RSVP to the event on this website.
