A warm, shifty weather system over the weekend provided some challenging conditions for most boats. Steve Fleckenstein (8028) didn't seem to find many serious challenges though, and sailed a very consistent regatta, winning 6 of 8 races and finishing 2nd in the other 2. Don Campbell (7607) did a good job of saving a couple of races to claim second on the weekend and Bruce Long, a new member this season, has quickly learned how to get a Star up to speed, claiming third place.
Saturday's winds were from the East and quite steady between 5 and 8 knots for the most part. A few significant shifts made racing "interesting" as usual for easterlies in English Bay. Sundays weather was not quite as reliable. The 7th race proved to be very trying when the wind changed from East to West on the last leg. Most of us were left bobbing around waiting for the Westerley for make up its mind and fill in so we could finish the race.
All in all though we had two delightful days of Vancouver summer to be on the water in a Star. How can that be bad?
