RVYC Fleet Champs - Oct. 25-26

The English Bay Star Fleet season's finale had plenty of drama:

  • Steve & Rob remembered how to win in a Star after 2 races and then it was business as usual. Nicely done boys!
  • Henry's crew took a short swim mid gybe and was narrowly missed by yours truly trucking downwind.
  • Al and Chuck stood by, as he was returned to Henry, shook it off and did two more races. Tough guy!
  • As the wind increased, a weather separation mark was dropped by the RC and…

September OD Regatta -RVYC

On Saturday we had 8 Stars, 5 races , in 22 degree warm 8-12 knot westerly. Great tight racing. On Sunday, again we raced 2 more in shorts and tee shirts in light variable conditions . Thanks to Brett who has been promoted to PRO, while Hunter was off coaching at the ISAF Worlds.

Labour Day Regatta - RVYC

6 Stars spend the last summer weekend in mild conditions.  The wind stability was challenging on Saturday morning resulting in two early abandonments, followed by 4 races. Sunday brought threatening clouds and finished in glorious sunshine. Good beverages on the lawn after an early finish. Thanks to PRO Hunter and left-hand man Brett for the effort.

Next up  - September 20 -21 OD regatta.  There is talk of a multi-OD fleet dinner following Saturday racing. Stay…

District 6 series conversation

I would definitely support a Bellingham regatta next year. In the lead up to the North Americans we all could gain from mixing it up in a new venue.

I think we all need to strive to travel more often. A District 6 series would be great place to start. Perhaps a schedule like David Branch has proposed would encourage more to get on the road. Can I suggest continuing this conversation over the fall

I have posted this email thread on the District 6 website for all to to… Continue

WAVES regatta report

A strong Kits Star boat contingent and 8017 raced 9 races over two days of wacky weather. We saw a race start towards every direction in the compass rose. The climatic finale came on Sunday when we had 2 inches of monsoon-like rain  over 20 minutes followed by 25 degrees and sun, as we paddled to the dock. A monstrous buffet followed with kids from Calgary to Colorado.

Steve and Rob showed us why they were in the top ten at the San Diego Worlds- again. The rest of the us battled for…

RVYC June OD Series

Another great weekend of racing! The fleet was smaller but the competition was tight. Phil and Ray were victorious again - that's two in row boys! We had 10-14 knots of a warm thermal breeze and 9 races over the weekend. We rounded each mark bow to stern - huge laughs. Next up is WAVES - June 28-29. There will be a separate registration needed from www.royal.van.com

RVYC May OD Regatta

Another great weekend of Star racing- 8 boats participated! Dinghy ace, Thilo Giese helmed with Al Cullen and dominated in Saturdays tricky conditions. There were three generations of Burgess family out on Saturday -young Kyle, Dennis, Al to grandpa Bill.

Sunday's weather was pretty wet, and the fleet thinned out, but the racing was excellent. Phil Lockwood and Ray Rogers won the event overall. Big smiles all around, as Phil drove 12 hrs back to the new snow in Calgary!

RVYC Spring OD Regatta

Great turn out this weekend.

Saturday felt like February - drizzle, big lee tide and light shifterlies (that's what I call easterlies)

Sunday was much warmer but no sustained breeze, so the RC ended the drifting match. Bill and Al Burgess came ready for Sunday to make the Stars the big fleet on the bay.

Well sailed by Rob and Matt on Saturday to clinch the regatta. Here are the numbers…

Puget Sound Star Fleet Notes - Dave Watt

All,

Thank you for attending this past Thursday night's annual Star Fleet at meeting at C.Y.C.  It was great seeing everybody, and having a chance to talk about our upcoming plans.  I was also terrific seeing Bill's notebook with a write-up and photographs from his recent Hall of Fame induction - thanks again Bill for sharing your experience with us!  Thank you also to Brian Watkins for attending the meeting, and for providing updates about potential changes to…
